Not sure about BBQs in this particular park. Best option would be to contact the local authority and ask for their Parks & Gardens Dept. They should be able to advise on usage/ limitations for all of the town's parks.
There are two spaces in the park but not really close to the museum. I would ring the museum and try to organise your visit and tell them what you require.
