My friend and I will be traveling to Easter Island in January and want to know the following about paddle boarding: 1 Is Anakena is the only area with calm waters? 2. Anakena looks like a small body of water. Are you able to paddle out of Anakena and still have calm waters? 3. How much time should we allot to paddle boarding at Anakena? Thank you so much. Hi there - according to a quick google - it is about half an hour's drive by car from Hanga Roa to Anakena Beach - I think you would be able to arrange a taxi to get you there and the hotel will definitely be able to assist - The beach area is lovely and the stand of Moai is spectacular - you will get fabulous photos of the carved hands - remember it is a sacred site though. There are bathrooms (you will need some money to use the facilities) and I recall there were a couple of nice open air bar/eating areas close to the car park. I would make sure that you arrange a return journey as it is a bit isolated and the chances of just connecting with a taxi is probably unlikely. There is a lovely lawn area under the palm trees but a fair way from the actual beach - so not much shade on the beach front - take sunscreen and a hat. I didn't have any trouble in South America at all with my belongings but probably would be cautious about what you take to the beach and leave lying around - especially if just going alone! Enjoy - Easter Island is spectacular!!
