We have been wanting to visit this zoo for a very long time. Maybe autumn wasn’t the best season to choose, because there was quite some refurbishing going on. Which was reflected in a €5 discount pe…Full review by 500dank

I had a great time in this Zoo. It has the continents theming and its well cared for. They have some exotic animals and its a nice day to spend with the family, espcially kids. I really enjoyed it.Full review by TheAbbas

Hi, I was just reading reviews of Planckendael and have not come across many that mention its accessibility for people in wheel chairs or on crutches with limited mobility. Would you say this zoo is "disabled friendly" for someone who is slow on their feet and doesnt deal with steps well? I use crutches all the time and need my husband with me as my carer I'm an avid zoo goer in the UK but will be visiting Belgium and Germany for the first time this year and I am keen to visit several zoos. Thanks in advance for your help. Leigh ps can you tell me if this zoo offers a discount for disabled visitors and their carers, as many zoos in the UK do.

I would say Planckendael is very good for people with mobility issues. It's very flat, the only stairs we came across were up to a rope bridge walk. As long as you can do the distance, walking round is a fairly long walk, then you should be fine. Plenty of places to stop and rest if you need to. Loads of maps, well laid out zoo. Any slopes or gentle. Only one section towards the red pandas and snow leopards was not surfaced but even then it was fairly smooth. There are sections of decking but no gaps bigger than a half inch. Spent a lot of time working in Mechelen over the past 4 years, and only went to Planckendael this year for the first time whilst in Mechelen on holiday, so with I had gone before, it is a very good zoo,and I have Chester Zoo o ly down the road from where I live to compare it against. Hope you have a great time.
