Virginia Beach police have confirmed that John McCoy III, the suspect who killed two officers Friday, is the same man who appeared in a WTKR News 3 story nearly two decades ago.

A South Jersey community is mourning the loss of a hometown hero after two officers were killed in the line of duty last week.

When two Virginia Beach police officers tried to stop a driver on South Rosemont Road on Friday night, it was for having expired plates on his vehicle, according to police.
