According to South Korea's Interior Ministry, the fires destroyed over 22,000 acres of land, damaged at least 162 buildings and disrupted transportation networks, including train services and major roads.

Firefighters confronted the blazes in the country’s southeast over the weekend. Most had been extinguished by Monday, but dry and windy conditions persisted.

At least two people died and hundreds evacuated their homes as wildfires raged in South Korea on Saturday. Two firefighters were found dead in Sancheong County in the country's south-east, news agency Yonhap reported, citing local officials.
