What Is HDMI 2.2? New Cables, Extended Bandwidth for Gaming and More
To handle the increased bandwidth, HDMI 2.2 requires new cables. Though colloquially these will almost certainly get called "HDMI 2.2 cables" their actual name is Ultra96. Mercifully, the connector is the same, so you won't need to replace all your cables if you get a device with HDMI 2.2.

The HDMI Forum, the organization that develops the HDMI specification, said in a press release published at CES 2025 today that HDMI 2.2 doubles the bandwidth from a maximum of 48Gbps possible with the previous HDMI 2.
