The story of a 2-year-old buck known as Baby that was cared for like a pet in Connellsville is dividing people.

Officers learned that the woman was Tamara Shiery, 64, and said she was keeping the deer as a pet illegally in a fenced-in area around her house. The Pennsylvania Game Commission said the animal had been castrated and altered to prevent its antlers from growing. It was being kept in a fenced-in area around Shiery’s house.

There's a dispute over who has the rights to a wild deer in Fayette County. One woman tried to claim the deer as her pet, giving it a dog collar and even getting it vaccinated. But the Pennsylvania Game Commission says she can't do that and took it away from her.

The PA Game Commission Southwest Region served a warrant on Tuesday after it was discovered someone was trying to keep a deer as a pet in Fayette County.
