A succession of recent storms, including Storm Herminia, have caused severe flooding in western France. Residents have been forced to leave their homes by boat and helicopter. In Rennes, one of the worst affected places, around 400 people were taken to safety. The city's mayor said it was the most severe flooding in more than four decades.

It comes after Storm Éowyn caused disruption on Friday and Saturday, including multiple power cuts and gusts of up to 93mph (159km/h). The Met Office said: "Periods of heavy rain could eventually lead to some flooding of roads and properties.

Storm Herminia has brought wind and heavy rain to much of Wales and southern England, with a major incident being declared in Somerset. More than 100 people have been evacuated in the south-western county following flooding in the early hours of Monday,

Storm Herminia swept across Brittany at the weekend and caused record flooding. Pictures show the situation in the municipality of Guipry-Messac, nearly 20 miles south of Rennes. The department of Ille-et-Vilaine declared the highest alert level on Monday.
