Jared Bednar received some clarity from the league on why a whistle wasn’t blown to stop a play with his goaltender Scott Wedgewood hurt and down on the ice.

The 27-year-old forward has missed Minnesota's past four games with a lower-body injury since he last played in a 4-3 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Dec. 23. The Wild are 2-0-0 in those games, including a 5-3 win against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.

He was unable to put any weight on it while leaving the ice but looked to be in much better condition while watching practice Friday. Still, the Avs recalled Trent Miner after practice, and he will likely get his first NHL start next week when Colorado has back-to-back road games at Chicago and Minnesota.

His frustration: The lack of a whistle by officials when goaltender Scott Wedgewood was down in the net and hurt after a Buffalo player was pushed into him in the third period. Bednar felt the play should've been stopped out of player safety. Instead, the Sabres scored.

Scott Wedgewood is one half of a completely new-look goaltending tandem for the Colorado Avalanche — but the team will be without the veteran for at least the next couple of weeks, head coach Jared Bednar confirmed on Friday.
