Stock Market Today: 46 out of the 50 constituent stocks ended in the red, dragged down by Britannia, BEL, NTPC, Asian Paints, and HDFC Bank

After opening in green, the S P BSE Sensex reversed course, dragged down by banking, financial services, and auto stocks. The Nifty50, too, faced a broad-based decline, with nearly all sectoral indices closing in the red except for Nifty Realty.

Sun Pharma, Trent, HCL Tech, Infosys, and ONGC were among the top gainers on the Nifty index. Britannia Industries, HDFC Bank, NTPC, and Tata Motors were among the top losers.

Among sectors, all the sectoral indices ended in the red with auto, bank, capital goods, FMCG, metal, oil & gas, power, telecom, media, pharma down 0.5-2 percent.

Bank stocks HDFC Bank and State Bank of India contributed most to the Sensex fall. NTPC, Tata Motors and Bajaj Finance also contributed to the decline.

Indian benchmark equity indices BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 opened higher on Tuesday, amid strength in the US markets.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a flat start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 24,235 level, a premium of nearly 10 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

Indian stock markets opened higher on Monday, driven by gains in Tata Motors and Asian Paints, but traded with caution ahead of key corporate earnings reports. Despite the initial surge, technical indicators suggest continued market volatility and consolidation in the near term.
