H olmes Sterling Morrison carried an empty suitcase into Houston Intercontinental Airport on Aug. 22, 1971. Morrison was, until that specific moment, a member of the Velvet Underground.

Forty-five years after the album’s release, Tucker and Yule are the only surviving musicians to have played on the record; guitarist Sterling Morrison died in 1995, while Reed passed away last year.
