Police say they were notified by the train operator of the incident around 3:18 a.m. The crash happened in the 200 Block of South Saratoga Street.

"Upon arrival, police confirmed that an eastbound train had struck a pedestrian in this area, resulting in a fatality," the department said in a statement.

One person was killed early Tuesday morning when a train collided with a pickup truck, according to the Columbia Police Department. The crash happened before 4:30 a.m. on the railroad tracks near the intersection of S.C. 16/Sunset Drive and Phillips Street, police said.
