An hour and 20 minutes before first pitch in the Bronx on Friday, Soto, the $765 million Met, got his final gift from the Yankees.

Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt, brought in as part of the Yankees’ pivot once Soto chose the Mets’ $765 million over their $760 million, combined for five hits, three runs and two RBIs to lead a patient offensive attack.

After Soto signed with the Mets, the Yankees pivoted and used part of the money to sign Max Fried and Paul Goldschmidt, and trade for Cody Bellinger. Fried has been arguably the best pitcher in the league this year and Goldschmidt has been a revelation at first base. Bellinger, after a slow start, has been very good the last 2-3 weeks.
