In December 2020, the long-awaited video game Cyberpunk 2077 was released to very, very mixed reviews. Since the initial problems surrounding the game's launch, though, the name Cyberpunk 2077 has had a total turn-around and recovery.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a shockingly good anime spin-off that proved not all video game transmedia projects are destined for mediocrity. So maybe it’s not surprising that Netflix and Cyberpunk 2077 maker CD Projekt Red are back to tease a new collaboration that will let fans return to Night City for another neon-fueled adventure.

Netflix is making a new Cyberpunk anime – will it continue the story Edgerunners, or could it be a new series set in Night City?

Netflix and CD Projekt Red are returning to Night City for a new Cyberpunk animated series, the two companies announced Thursday at Netflix’s Geeked Week event. Details on the untitled project are scant, but what Netflix and CDPR haven’t said about the new anime is perhaps telling.

Netflix is heading back to Night City. We just don’t know when. We don’t even know what the streamer is going to do when it returns there. And we definitely don’t know if this new animated story is connected to the site’s previous anime series set in the video game world.
