San Antonio may be missing out on the most extreme aspects of the arctic blast piling snow on Lone Star cities, but San Antonio will be doused in inches of rain and near-freezing temperatures. The National Weather Service has warned of small bouts of iced roads or problem pockets.

School districts in the Hill Country and South Central Texas have announced closures and delays this week due to wintry weather.

"All Austin ISD schools and offices will operate on normal schedules Thursday, Jan. 9, but due to rain and cold temperatures, all afterschool outdoor athletic activities will be canceled and any other outdoor activities will move indoors," Austin ISD wrote on Facebook.

Some schools will be closed or have early dismissal today due to cold temperatures and expected snow. Dayton Christian School and the Horizon Science Academy are closed in Montgomery County. Preble Shawnee Local Schools announced on social media that they are closed “due to inclement weather” in Preble County.
