Chappell Roan has joked that she would 'be more successful' if she was 'okay wearing a muzzle' and didn’t voice her opinions. The singer also credited her late grandfather for giving her the resolve to stand on her decisions in a new interview,

"If I were to override more of my basic instincts, I would be bigger. I would be way bigger…. And I would still be on tour right now," the pop star said about being dubbed a diva in the music industry.

Roan says musicians are trained to be obedient. Standing up for yourself is portrayed as whining or ingratitude, and rejecting convention comes at a cost. "I think, actually, I'd be more successful if I was OK wearing a muzzle," she laughs.
