Antioch High School in Tennessee was placed on lockdown as police investigated a shooting inside the school building, officials say.

In the wake of the deadly shooting at Antioch High School Wednesday, threats against schools across Middle Tennessee are circulating online.

The shooting is the latest in a seemingly never-ending string of tragedies across the country, with 83 school shootings occurring in 2024. According to Education Week, Antioch’s was the first U.S. school shooting in a K-12 school in 2025.

Police are on the scene at Antioch High School near Nashville after shots were fired in the building on Wednesday.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A shooting in a Nashville high school cafeteria Wednesday left a female student dead and another student wounded, nearly two years after another deadly school shooting in the city that ignited an emotional debate about gun control in Tennessee.

The deadly shooting is the latest to rock the Nashville community nearly two years after another school massacre sparked a debate for gun reform.

A student shot at least two other students Wednesday at Antioch High School outside Nashville, Tennessee, police said. The shooter then shot himself, according to police. The conditions of the students wasn't immediately known.

Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning. On Wednesday, Metro Nashville Police Department spokesman Don Aaron said police received the first call to 911 at 11:11 a.m., two minutes after the 17-year-old student opened fire at the high school.

Analysts with the ADL Center on Extremism "have located a manifesto and social media accounts believed to belong to the shooter, where he shared a range of incel, accelerationist, white supremacist, antisemitic & anti-Black content," the organization wrote in a Wednesday post on X (formerly Twitter ).
