The New Jersey Devils announced Friday that forward Erik Haula has been placed on Injured Reserve (IR) with an ankle sprain, retroactive to Jan. 4. The team has also recalled defenseman Colton White from their AHL affiliate,

Forward Erik Haula joined fellow injured player, defenseman Santeri Hatakka, on the ice at RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House. The 33-year-old center has been sidelined with a sprained ankle that he sustained on Jan. 4 against the San Jose Sharks. On Jan. 17, the organization announced Haula was placed on injured reserve.

Dawson Mercer scored two goals in the second period, Dougie Hamilton had a goal and an assist, and Timo Meier had two assists for the Devils (27-17-6), who are 1-2-2 in their past five games. Jacob Markstrom allowed one goal on seven shots before sustaining an undisclosed injury early in the second period.

The New Jersey Devils (26-17-6) will host the Boston Bruins (23-19-6) on Wednesday at the Prudential Center with the puck dropping at 7:00 PM ET.

Injuries and inefficiency have affected the forwards of the New Jersey Devils over the past month. As call ups have had to be made, a glaring weakness in the Devils’ system has continued to be apparent.

Never a huge goal-scorer, Granlund is on pace to hit 20 for the third time in his 13-year career and the first since 2017-18 with Minnesota. But the 32-year-old has been a point producer with the Sharks. He’s leading the team with 44 points in 51 contests after a scoring a team-high 60 points in 69 games last season.

Off, injuries are starting to pile up for star players across the league. Among them are Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov and Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen, who are expected to miss several weeks.
