Veteran Mauritian politician Navin Ramgoolam was sworn in as prime minister for his fourth term on Wednesday, a decade after he last left power, following his coalition's dramatic triumph in a general election.

JOHANNESBURG — Mauritius’ opposition coalition has won the country's election by a landslide, taking all seats in the country’s parliament in a major rejection of the current government.

Mauritius opposition leader Navin Ramgoolam said Tuesday that his alliance had won a crushing election victory over the governing coalition, after the incumbent prime minister conceded he faced a "huge defeat".

Mauritius' opposition coalition led by Navin Ramgoolam secured a near clean sweep of seats in parliament on Tuesday as final election results were announced, securing him a fourth term as prime minister.
