According to a Square Enix financial results briefing from May 2024 that is now availably publicly, profits from Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth failed to meet expectations.

According to a financial report from May 2024, both games failed to meet expectations, as its HD games division posted yet another year of losses.

Final Fantasy developers are not satisfied with the profit margins of FF 16 and 7 Rebirth in the latest briefing. According to the president, both the games cannibalized each other’s sales. Hence, the company plans for multiple platform strategies and extends the time for future titles.

As system architect Mark Cerny promised, the PS5 Pro solves these issues, offering a smooth frame rate with image quality on par with – and, in some instances, better than – the base PS5 version’s graphics mode.
