The Aga Khan IV has been laid to rest in Egypt in a private ceremony. The governor of Aswan welcomed Prince Karim’s family at the southern Egyptian’s provinces airport ahead of the burial service on Sunday.

Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, was laid to rest in Aswan, Egypt, on Sunday during a private ceremony. His death, which was announced on February 4, 2025, at the age of 88, has left the global Ismaili Muslim community in mourning. He was laid to rest in Aswan in accordance with his last wish.

The Aga Khan’s burial came five days after he passed away on February 4 in Lisbon, Portugal, at the age of 88.

The burial service for Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary imam of the Shiite Ismaili Muslims, was held in the southern Egyptian province of Aswan on Sunday.

Prince Karim al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, the 49th Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, will be laid to rest today in Aswan, Egypt in a private burial ceremony.

The interment was attended by Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the 50th Ismaili Imam, family members, and leaders of the global Ismaili community.
