Public sector undertaking Coal India has deployed a high-capacity pump with a 500 GPM (gallons per minute) capacity to dewater the mine at Assam’s Dima Hasao district where efforts are on to search the trapped labourers.

Efforts to rescue eight people from a coal mine in Assam entered the fifth day on Friday, with Coal India installing a 500 GPM (gallons per minute) pump to dewater the mine, in which the people have been trapped since January 6.

Three miners were feared dead inside a flooded coal mine in a remote district of India's northeastern Assam state, authorities said on Tuesday, and the men were part of a total of nine still trapped as rescue teams worked to reach them.
