Most red flag warnings of critical fire danger expired Wednesday evening, bringing relief for firefighting work.

Eaton Fire initially started 6:18 p.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. Since its discovery nine days ago, it has burned 14,117 acres. A fire crew of 3,404 has been working on site and, as of Thursday morning, they managed to contain 55% of the fire. However, investigations into the cause are ongoing.

More evacuation orders have been lifted as the Eaton Fire reached 55% containment on Thursday morning. The fire has also burned 14,117 acres, according to CalFire.

As firefighters work to extinguish the deadly and destructive Palisades and Eaton wildfires, their progress is often reported through a containment percentage. As of Wednesday morning, that figure stood at 19% for the Palisades Fire and 45% for the Eaton Fire.
