An early-morning New Year’s Eve fire burned an apartment building, critically injured one person and displaced nearly three dozen residents in Northwest Washington’s Columbia Heights neighborhood, according to the city’s fire department.

Another apartment fire, this time in South Austin, has displaced families right before the start of the new year.
