Half goat, half fish? In Latin, Capricornus literally means, "horned goat." You may have heard of the famous little island of Capri in Italy — its name means that it is the island of goats.

The name is Latin for “horned goat,” but Capricornus is depicted as a sea-goat, with the front half of a goat melded to the tail of a fish. Not something you see every day.

Capricorn is represented by a horned sea goat. This is attributed to Sumerian mythology, where the God Enki had the head and upper body of a goat and the lower body and tail of a fish.
