Gov. Greg Abbott met privately Wednesday with President Donald Trump at the White House on the twin topics of immigration and border security, further cementing the alliance of the two Republican leaders on two of the most divisive issues on the political landscape.

AUSTIN, Texas — In a series of executive orders Wednesday, Gov. Greg Abbott ordered state agencies to cooperate with President Donald Trump’s mass deportation efforts and directed the state’s criminal justice agency to identify land and facilities that could be used for detaining and deporting undocumented migrants.

The Texas governor said the additional troops will work alongside federal border agents as part of Trump's efforts to seize the offensive.

The new policy is a result of a memorandum of understanding between Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and the head of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
