The plot goes that Pocahontas, the beautiful daughter of Chief Powhatan, saves English adventurer John Smith from execution when British relations with the "savages" in the New World turned sour.

In Disney’s cartoon version of the story (and elsewhere), Pocahontas is shown to be involved romantically with an Englishman called Captain John Smith. He was real, but not her boyfriend.
