The Bay State will be represented when the long-running reality competition television show "Survivor" returns for its 48th season in a few weeks. Justin Pioppi, a 29-year-old from Winthrop, Massachusetts, will be competing on the upcoming season, the show announced this week.

Season 48 will follow the 18 castaways as they attempt to survive the elements and each other while stranded on picturesque but remote islands of Fiji. The players, who will be divided into three tribes of six, must navigate physical challenges and tenuous social alliances in the hope of becoming the Sole Survivor and winning $1 million.

Another group of castaways is fighting for survival. Survivor season 48 was confirmed in November 2024, and the details of the season, including the premiere date, cast, location and more, were later announced in025.
