Cars are stranded and a road remains closed due to flooding the day after heavy rain that caused widespread traffic problems.

Numerous roads have been closed after flooding hit Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Heavy rain fell on Sunday, into Monday, with areas such as Dunstable and Hitchin seeing shops and cars partially submerged.

Residents in towns in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire have reported streets being under water after heavy rain. Pictures on social media showed parts of Dunstable and Hitchin hit by downpours, with shops and cars partially submerged.

Pictures showed shops and cars submerged in water in Dunstable and Hitchin in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, as severe flooding warnings were issued near the River Lee and River Ivel.

A road in Wiltshire has been closed due to flooding as heavy rain continues across the county with a weather alert in place.
