Civ 4 still feels like the overall best 4x I own. Granted, nowadays if I'm playing Civ I'm playing Civ 6. Honorable mentions: Endless Legend - fantastic aesthetic and visual design. If battles were more like Humankind this would easily be my top pick X4 Foundations (I'd call this 4x-adjacent) - really cool to experience a first-person "4x" game.

There's a whole sub-family of 4x games where you control the battles. Age of Wonders, various Masters of Orion clones, various Masters of Magic clones, Heroes of Might and Magic (sorta 4x-y), etc. Most grand strategy games come from Paradox, and none of them allow for battle control.

Aurora is a 4X space simulation game that rewards patience. Difficult to learn and slow to play, this is a game well-suited to people who like deep strategy and don't mind poor UI.

Edit: Gilded Destiny is another game that comes to mind that I also look forward to- though not strictly 4X but it is definitely near that of 4X.

This can be incredibly useful as you can split lane into smaller ones and connect more devices. as you mentioned, if your motherboard support PCIe Bifurcation, you can turn an x16 slot into an 8x/8x or 4x/4x/4x/4x.

Feb 27, 2019 · 4x 0% smoothing > 2.25x 18% smoothing > 1440p(1.78x) 30% smoothing I have 2600 oc with 2060 super and 1080p144 so what will probably work best for me is older games at 4x or newer games with CPU limitations and where I can benefit from 2.25x. I do prefer in game scaling where available.
