Did anyone else put these tree seeds on their nose as a kid?
Mar 22, 2019 · For clarity, if you peel the two ends apart from the stem, they're sticky and you can put them on your nose. Both maple, and Sycamore trees produced seeds like this, and being from NY, they were everywhere.

The propeller-shaped seed pods that grow on maple trees always remind me of times when I played with my cousins when we were growing up. My cousins taught me what to do with these whirlygigs, while they were still green.

Oct 12, 2012 · Maybe the reason they were called polynoses then was what we did with them: peeled the flat end into two, placing the sticky out-folded ends onto the bridge of our noses, giving us multiple noses -polynose.

Took me 51 years to realize that “helicopters” germinate into Maple trees.
I grew up with a backyard filled with maple trees and loved the beautiful fall colors. Really miss them! We used to gather up all the helicopter seeds and throw them off our deck and and watch dozens of them flutter down.

That house ended up burning down with all our mementos and family heirlooms inside, at the same time my brother was very addicted to heroin.
