Nataraja (/ n̪əʈəɾɑd͡ʒᵊ / , Sanskrit: नटराज, IAST: Naṭarāja; Tamil: நடராஜர், Naṭarājar), also known as Adalvallan (ஆடல்வல்லான், Ādalvallāṉ), [2] is a depiction of Shiva, one of the main deities in Hinduism, as the divine cosmic dancer.

On Nataraja’s left is the goddess Śivakami, sumptuously dressed and garlanded. She stands gracefully, a flower in her right hand and the left hanging loose at her side. Several devotees headed by a torchbearer accompany the divine pair.

There is a three tongued flame on the right side of the pedestal. This Nataraja was admired in the 1920’s by the world famous sculptor, Rodin, the image is remarkable for its grace, its vigour, its perfect modelling, its rhythmic movement and its majestic expression.
