Jul 10, 2019 · The 4.0 is a straight inline 6 cylinder not a v6. I was an assistant service manager at our Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Toyota Dealer for 10 years. I also had a 96 G Cherokee, 4.0, and a 2000 G Cherokee 4.0. The 4.0 is a bullet proof engine.

Oct 27, 2011 · I would go with the 97-98 zj grand cherokee,more of bugs have been worked out and more refined on last couple years (this is usually true of most rigs).The 4.0 is a great motor for reliability but i would get a V-8 for more power and of course the sound!!
