For a while, CVP (central venous pressure) has been used to assess fluid status in critically ill patients—but here’s why it shouldn’t be your go-to: ➡ Poor Predictor of Fluid Responsiveness – Studies show that CVP does not reliably indicate whether a patient will respond to fluids. A normal or low CVP doesn’t mean they need fluids, and a high CVP doesn’t always mean they’re volume overloaded. ➡ Static, Not Dynamic – CVP is a pressure measurement, not a direct indicator of volume or preload.
